Patriotic Granny Square Handbag

I finished this project in a single day and I enjoyed making the pattern as I crocheted.  This project started as a granny square blanket.  I started and finished this project on Memorial Day 2013.  I was feeling very patriotic with the recent events and dear friends deployed.  I had a get together a few days before and listened intently to my close friends war stories about Afghanistan and Iraq.  Even now as I think about all the lives that have been paid for my freedom it brings a tear to my eye.  While this is NOTHING compared to what they have put on the line for me, I just wanted to create something that spoke to MY heart!  Below you will find my pattern.  If you use or share this pattern, Please be courteous and LINK BACK HERE.

Strap:
With NAVY, ch 201 .
Row 1: Work 1 sc in second ch from hook and 1 sc in each ch—200 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, work 1 sc in each sc across row.
Continuing in NAVY, repeat Row 2 four more times. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Finishing:
Make sure all ends are weaved in to their corresponding colors.  Place the granny squares with WRONG SIDES facing each other.  With NAVY, sew the bottoms of the granny squares together.  Only sewing the bottom!  Place the strap on one side of the granny squares (to be the side panel of the handbag), make sure the strap is not twisted, and place the other end of the strap on the other side of the granny square (to be the other side panel of the bag).  With NAVY, sew the strap to the sides of the granny squares.
